Dr. "Feelgood" Potts

Music has always been a movement in Dr. "Feelgood' Robert Potts. It was said his first words that came out of his mouth were sung instead of spoken. He was born into a large family in Greenwood, MS. while working in the fields with his parents and siblings he kept himself entertained by singing songs that he heard on the radio. When, he reached school age he added his "Pocket Pal", the harmonica. While walking back and forth to school, he would blow the harmonica and sing. Soon, he was performing at family gatherings for nickels and dimes. While, attending Mississippi Valley State University, pursuing a degree in sociology, he decided he wanted a career in music instead.

In 1967, he moved to Memphis to start his career in music. His first stop was an audition at Stax Recording and Hi Records. In, 1970 he penned and recorded his first 45 single entitled, "Funky Postman" and "Under Your Spell." These releases lead to him appearing on local television, The Talent Party and Swing Shift. In the 1980's he landed a recording contract with 8th Street Records. Several singles were released including "Lost In The County Jail", "Seven Years Blues", and several cover tunes. The recordings were jukebox favorites. He also is a succesful songwriter penning the tune "Don't Make Me Late," by Johnnie Taylor, which he co-wrote with George Jackson.

In 1995 Dr. "Feelgood" started his own Record label, RLP Records. He released a single in 1996 and a full length CD in 1997. The CD, entitled "Love Starved," consisted of ten songs, {a combination of blues, soul, and a harmonica instrumental.} In January of 2000,he released a second RLP CD entitled "Blues Me 4 U LOSE ME."

In 2002 Dr. "Feelgood" signed with Ecko Records. His debut CD for the label, the self-titled "Dr. Feelgood Potts", was released in January 2003. In April of 2004 he had a second Ecko release entitled "Make It Talk". These CDs feature Dr. "Feelgood's" songwriting talents as and also highlight his harmonica playing

Dr. "Feelgood" Potts is also the father of Ecko Recording Artist and Soul Blues Star Sheba-Potts Wright. Sheba is featured along with Dr. "Feelgood" on the hit song" I Love The Way You Slow Roll That Thing On Me". As a performer he has shared the stage with many greats including BB King, Bobby Rush, Marvin Sease Denise LaSalle, Isaac Hayes, and the late Ted Taylor.
