Earl Gaines, a seasoned Blues artist and Grammy winner, was born in Decatur, Alabama during the Great Depression, a time when people knew heartache and pain. It is this background that is at the root of Gaines's music, a music that comes from the soul. Earl's soulful sound began early in his life. His first singing experience was in church but by sixteen years old, Earl knew that the world of music was larger than Decatur, Alabama. He left home and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, with hopes of becoming a blues singer. It was during his time in Nashville that Gaines learned to play the drums.

During his career, Gaines has worked with numerous artists including Louis Brooks & His Hi-Toppers, Bill Doggett, Bill "Hoss" Allen, Ted Jarrett, Fred James, Clifford Curry and Roscoe Shelton, and has recorded with numerous record labels including, Excello, Champion, Poncello and Ace, and Meltone Records,. Some of Gaines's recordings include the lead vocals on "It's Love Baby (24 Hours a Day)." He also collaborated on the album, Best of Luck to You and Gaines appeared on the syndicated television soul showcase, The !!!! Beat. Another one of Gaines's recordings that continues to be recognized is "Hymn Number 5." However, in 1975, Gaines left the music industry and took a job as a truck driver but in 1989, he returned to his roots and released the album House Party. This album was quite a comeback one and in the 1990s, Gaines's fortune turned, and he began singing full time, again. In 1995, Gaines' s release," I Believe in Your Love" helped to re-establish him. In 2004 Earl had one of the highlights of his career when he received a Grammy Award in the category "Best Historical Album" for "Night Train To Nashville: Music City Rhythm & Blues, 1945-1970" (Various Artists).
